If you have a fetish for American pinot noir and are near San Francisco this Saturday, November 19, don’t miss the Pinotfest 2011 tasting event. Over 50 luxury pinot noir producers, including Lynmar, Hartford, Siduri and Chehalem, will be pouring current releases.

The event is held on the cozy 4th floor of 450 Post Street above the posh but whimsical seafood restaurant Farallon. At Pinotfest you’ll be getting better a better grade of finger food to go with your pinot because Farallon is the caterer.

I do enjoy the San Francisco wine events at sprawling, anonymous, industrial Fort Mason, but this Farallon 4th floor venue is intimate and pretty ( and pretty expensive at $100) , making the Pinotfest event really special. Although the “party” does get cooking and noisy, the turn-of the- century ambience of the intimate, high-ceiling rooms makes one feel very pampered indeed. The crowd is always congenial and in a good mood.
