On December 14, we used our Coravin to pour half a bottle of each of these goodies. Both were from the Terra de Promissio vineyard. Here’s a tip: if you have a bottle of the 2017 drink it now. Here are our notes on the Domaine Della vertical 2017 and 2018.
The 2017 opens with aromas of black cherries, forest floor, and a hint of licorice. A lively palate, featuring notes of root beer and caramel. We recommend opening this one right now. It’s verging on over the hill.
The 2018 has lighter aromas with hints of red cherry and rose petals. This wine is very quaffable, more complex than the 2017. On the palate, bright acid plus cranberries, red raspberries, and cherries. We’d drink it right now, but we’re old and impatient. However, aging this baby more than another year is dicey.
We chose wisely.
