Lynmar 2010 "Old Vines" pinot noir

A club shipment arrived from Lynmar Estate today.  I eagerly tore the box open and cracked a bottle of Lynmar Estate 2010 Old Vines Pinot Noir from Quail Hill Vineyard.  Bing cherries and rose petals on the nose, followed by a luscious mouth feel that seems to penetrate every single taste bud.  Opens with cherries, apples, and a hint of clove, almost enough to make me believe there’s an added touch of zinfandel.  But I trust the folks at Lynmar who, year in and year out, remain one of the very few wineries that can produce consistently excellent, interesting pinots.  The mid-palate is rhubarb and strawberries, followed by a hint of cola on the finish.  The retail is $70, but you’ll have to search far and wide.  This one is sold out, most likely via wine club shipments alone.

Lynn and Anisya Fritz, co-owners of Lynmar, not only care deeply about the grapes and their wine, but are also having about as much fun as anyone with the wine business.  Lynmar’s “Midnight in Paris” dinner on Treasure Island a few months ago was an event that will linger in our memories for many years.  Thanks to Lynn, Anisya, Elizabeth Chessmar and all the great people that make Lynmar the experience it is today.
